Everyone has it in them to make art. Procreate makes it easier.

Procreate is a powerful yet inexpensive program that runs on the Apple iPad. It allows you to create art that emulates pencil sketches, oil paintings, pastels, charcoal drawings, inked cartoons, collages, and more without the mess, expense, and hassle of physical media. It is suitable for a wide range of ages and skill levels.

Procreate Dreams is a powerful animation program based on Procreate. It has many professional features for creating a wide variety of styles of animation.

In this introductory presentation, artist Karen Hardenbergh explains how Procreate let her make the transition from traditional media to digital art, and how she is now exploring Procreate Dreams to produce an animated short film.

This presentation is intended for teens, adults, and parents of artistically-inclined offspring over the age of five. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Procreate Dreams is more suited for teens over 16 and adults.

Procreate requires a reasonably recent iPad, able to run at least iOS 15.1 and an Apple Pencil or equivalent stylus (there are inexpensive alternatives to the Apple Pencil that we can recommend). If you have these tools, bring them into class and we can help you get started with Procreate. Please make sure that they are fully charged and that the Pencil is connected.  Karen and Gordon can help you download Procreate ($12.99) if necessary. Come a bit early.

If you have questions, feel free to email us at procreate@gsbrooks.com for more information.

Karen Hardenbergh is a retired Disney animation artist. Gordon Brooks is a retired post-production supervisor.
