The Women who served New Hampshire  During WWII

More than 350,000 American women served in uniform during World War II, both at home and abroad, while countless others supported the war effort as civilians. In New Hampshire, women stepped forward to serve in the WACs, the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Women’s Reserves, the Women Airforce Service Pilots and the Army and Navy Nurse Corps. Across the nation, “Rosies” filled factories and shipyards, taking on jobs once reserved for men. This course highlights the remarkable stories of New Hampshire women such as Sister Teresa of Nashua, who trained as a WASP before becoming a Carmelite nun, and Doris Moore of Portsmouth, a member of the “Six Triple Eight,” an all-Black, all-female battalion stationed in Europe during the final days of the war.
